Why can’t I scroll down on my computer?

When you’re working on a website and you want to scroll down the page, your computer might not respond. This can be frustrating, especially if the issue only happens occasionally. At first, the problem may seem random, but that’s because there are some common factors at play.

The most obvious one is that you’ve accidentally hit the “Full Screen” button at the top-right corner of the screen. That button will change your entire screen into one long webpage, which makes it impossible to scroll. The same goes for clicking on your Windows taskbar or Mac menu bar (which will open up all of your open windows). To fix this issue, first make sure that nothing beside your browser window is maximized (and if it is, minimize it). Clicking on these bars won’t necessarily stop you from scrolling—they’ll just open their respective menus and take up space—but they may be part of what’s causing your trouble.
