What is the hub in programming?

Hey Helen

A hub functions as a basic networking device that facilitates communication among multiple computers in a local area network (LAN). Operating at the physical layer, it lacks the intelligence to filter or forward data to specific devices. Instead, when it receives data from one port, it broadcasts the data to all other ports, regardless of the destination. This broadcasting nature can lead to data collisions and network congestion, especially as the number of connected devices increases. Due to these limitations, hubs are considered less efficient and less secure compared to more advanced networking devices like switches and routers, which operate at higher layers and can direct data more accurately to intended recipients.
