What is a Chrome driver?

Google Chrome is a web browser developed by Google. To expand the functionality of the browser, Google has created and supported plug-ins called Chrome drivers. A driver is a software component that allows programs to interact with hardware devices. While most drivers are made for external devices such as printers, scanners and cameras, some drivers are intended for internal devices such as hard disks and solid state drives. Since Chrome drivers don’t need to be installed like traditional software, they can be automatically updated without requiring the user to download and run a new installer.
