Hello folks!!
Given that Windows 7 is no longer officially supported by Microsoft, I’m wondering which browsers are still offering solid performance and security on this OS in 2025. It’s becoming a bit of a challenge to find reliable options!
Are there any browsers that are more suited for this old system, perhaps lighter ones, or are there some that are particularly better for privacy and keeping things secure even on an unsupported OS?
Would really appreciate any insights or recommendations from those still navigating Windows 7! Thanks for your help!
Hello @keerti_gautam
I’ve personally been using Firefox ESR (Extended Support Release) on Windows 7, and it’s been a reliable choice. It’s specifically designed for users who still need a stable, secure browser on unsupported systems like Win7.
It doesn’t get the absolute latest features right away, but crucially, it’s regularly updated with important security fixes, which is an absolute must for an older operating system. Plus, Firefox naturally offers solid privacy features, making it a great option if you’re concerned about tracking and data collection.
Hope this helps!
Hello @keerti_gautam and @Rashmihasija!!
On Windows 7, I personally prefer using Vivaldi. It’s a highly customizable browser that can be tweaked extensively to fit your specific needs and preferences.
The best part is that Vivaldi has continued support for older systems like Windows 7, and it has a robust, built-in focus on privacy, which is always a nice bonus to have. It’s remarkably fast, surprisingly light on resources, and it genuinely doesn’t feel like it’s packed with bloatware—ideal for keeping older PCs running smoothly.
Hope you find this useful!!
Hi @keerti_gautam, @Rashmihasija and @devan-skeem!
For my part, I’ve personally been using Opera on Windows 7, and it’s been a solid performer. It’s a wonderfully lightweight browser with some fantastic built-in features like ad-blocking and a free VPN, which are huge bonuses for privacy and security.
While Chrome and Edge may be tempting on newer systems, Opera truly feels more streamlined and faster on older systems like Windows 7. Plus, it continues to receive updates, ensuring essential security without dragging your system down too much.
Thank you! Hope this helps
