I’m the account holder for our Netflix subscription and currently away from home for an extended period due to a family emergency. I logged into Netflix on my mom’s TV using the “I’m traveling” option, which I thought would give me around 30 days of access.
However, after just a week, it stopped working and now shows: “Sorry, you’ve used all your temporary codes.”
I called Netflix customer service and was basically told the only way is to return to my home network—unfortunately, that’s over 800 miles away.
My wife is using the account at home, and I can still access Netflix on my phone, but I really wanted to watch something on a TV.
Anyone have a workaround that’s worked in this kind of situation?
@MattD_Burch I experienced the same issue while staying with my sister for a couple of weeks.
The only workaround that actually worked for me was casting Netflix from my phone to the TV using Chromecast. As long as the Netflix app runs on your phone (which it still does), you can mirror it to a smart TV without logging in directly on the TV itself.
Not perfect, but it saved movie night!
Ugh, yeah, Netflix has gotten pretty strict with that.
I had luck using an HDMI adapter to connect my iPad to the TV—basically turns the TV into an external monitor for your Netflix app.
You won’t have to deal with the temporary code nonsense, and playback is smooth enough for watching movies. Just make sure to disable rotation lock!
I had a similar situation during a work trip and what helped was setting up a remote desktop connection to my home computer and streaming Netflix that way.
It’s a bit of a techy solution, but it worked and let me “appear” like I was on my home network. Not ideal for casual use, but maybe worth trying if you’re staying put for a while.
